What is Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment?
Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) is a service that lets you use Amazon's fulfillment network to ship orders from any sales channel, not just Amazon. Your products sit in Amazon's warehouses, and when someone orders from your Etsy shop, Shopify store, or any other platform, Amazon picks, packs, and ships the order.
If you already sell on Amazon and use FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon), your inventory is already in Amazon's warehouses. MCF lets you use that same inventory to fulfill orders from Etsy without moving products to a separate location or handling fulfillment yourself.
For Etsy sellers, this solves a real problem. As your shop grows, packing and shipping orders from your home or a small workspace becomes the bottleneck. MCF gives you access to Amazon's world-class logistics without requiring you to sell on Amazon at all (though most MCF users sell on both).
MCF vs FBA: What's the difference?
FBA handles orders placed on Amazon.com. It's included in your standard Amazon selling fees. MCF handles orders placed outside Amazon (Etsy, Shopify, eBay, your own website, etc.). It uses the same inventory and warehouses but has separate, slightly higher fulfillment fees.
How MCF works for Etsy sellers
Here's the basic workflow for using MCF to fulfill Etsy orders:
Send inventory to Amazon
Ship your products to Amazon's fulfillment centers, just like you would for FBA. Amazon stores them across their network for fast delivery.
Customer orders on Etsy
A buyer finds your product on Etsy and places an order through your Etsy shop. The order appears in your Etsy dashboard as usual.
Create an MCF order in Amazon Seller Central
You go to Amazon Seller Central and create a Multi-Channel Fulfillment order. Enter the customer's shipping address, select the product(s), and choose a shipping speed.
Amazon ships the order
Amazon picks, packs, and ships the order from their warehouse. They provide a tracking number.
Update Etsy with tracking
You enter the tracking number in Etsy and mark the order as shipped. The customer receives their package, and the order is complete.
Manually, this process takes 3-5 minutes per order. For a shop doing 5-10 orders a day, it's manageable. For higher volume, you'll want to automate it (covered below).
MCF costs and fee breakdown
MCF fees are slightly higher than standard FBA fulfillment fees. Here's what you'll pay:
Fulfillment fees (per unit)
MCF charges a per-unit fee based on the size and weight of your product. These fees cover picking, packing, and shipping.
| Size Tier | Standard Shipping | Expedited (2-day) |
|---|---|---|
| Small standard (up to 1 lb) | $6.00 - $7.00 | $8.00 - $9.00 |
| Large standard (1-3 lb) | $7.50 - $9.00 | $9.50 - $11.00 |
| Large standard (3-20 lb) | $9.00 - $15.00 | $11.00 - $18.00 |
| Oversize | $15.00+ | $20.00+ |
Note: Fees are approximate and change periodically. Check Amazon Seller Central for current rates.
Storage fees
Monthly storage fees are the same as FBA: $0.87 per cubic foot (January-September) and $2.40 per cubic foot (October-December). Long-term storage fees apply to inventory that sits for more than 365 days.
Is MCF cost-effective?
Compare MCF fees to your current fulfillment costs. If you're shipping from home, add up your actual costs: shipping labels (USPS, UPS), packaging materials, and your time. For many sellers, MCF is comparable to or slightly more expensive than self-fulfillment on a per-order basis, but the time savings and reliability make it worthwhile.
MCF tends to be most cost-effective for sellers who already use FBA for Amazon sales and want to leverage the same inventory for Etsy. You avoid maintaining two separate fulfillment operations. It's less cost-effective if you only sell on Etsy and don't need Amazon's national warehouse network.
Pros and cons for Etsy shops

- National warehouse network (fast delivery anywhere)
Cons
- No custom packaging or inserts
- Amazon branding on packaging (can be turned off)

- Minimum inventory shipment requirements
The branding concern
The biggest objection Etsy sellers have about MCF is branding. Etsy buyers often expect a personal, handmade feel. Receiving an Amazon-branded box for something they ordered from an Etsy shop can feel off. The good news is that Amazon now offers "blank box" packaging for MCF orders (no Amazon branding on the outside). You can enable this in your MCF settings. The packaging is plain brown boxes instead of the Amazon smile tape.
You still can't include custom packaging, handwritten notes, or business cards when using MCF. If the personal touch is central to your brand, MCF might not be the right fit. But if fast, reliable delivery matters more to your customers than custom tissue paper, MCF works well.
Best fit for MCF
MCF is ideal for Etsy sellers who sell standardized products (not one-of-a-kind handmade items), already use FBA for Amazon sales, want to free up time from fulfillment, and prioritize speed and reliability over custom packaging.
Setting up MCF for your Etsy orders
Here's how to get started with MCF for your Etsy shop.
Prerequisites
- Amazon Professional Seller account ($39.99/month). You need this to access FBA and MCF.
- Products already in FBA (or ready to ship to Amazon). You need inventory in Amazon's warehouses before you can use MCF.
- Matching SKUs. Your products in FBA need to correspond to your Etsy listings. Use consistent SKUs across both platforms to make matching easy.
Step-by-step setup
- Enable MCF in Seller Central. Go to Settings > Fulfillment by Amazon > Multi-Channel Fulfillment and enable the service.
- Configure blank box packaging. In your MCF settings, select "unbranded packaging" so orders don't arrive in Amazon-branded boxes.
- Send inventory to FBA. If your products aren't already in FBA, create inbound shipments and send your inventory to Amazon.
- Set up inventory sync. Connect Amazon and Etsy through an inventory sync tool so stock levels stay accurate across both platforms. This is critical. When MCF ships an Etsy order, the FBA inventory decreases, and your Etsy listing quantity needs to update accordingly.
- Process your first MCF order. When an Etsy order comes in, go to Seller Central > Orders > Create Multi-Channel Fulfillment Order. Enter the customer's address and select the product. Choose your shipping speed and submit.
- Add tracking to Etsy. Once Amazon ships the order, copy the tracking number to your Etsy order and mark it as shipped.
Automating the workflow
Manually creating MCF orders and copying tracking numbers works fine for a few orders a day. But as your volume grows, you want to automate this.
What automation looks like
With the right tools connected:
- Customer orders on Etsy
- The order automatically triggers an MCF fulfillment request to Amazon
- Amazon ships the order and generates a tracking number
- The tracking number is automatically sent back to Etsy
- Inventory levels update across both platforms
You don't touch anything. The entire process happens automatically from order to delivery.
Tools for automation
Several tools can automate the Etsy-to-MCF workflow. Commerce Kitty connects both platforms and can route orders to the appropriate fulfillment service. Other options include dedicated MCF routing tools and custom API integrations.
The minimum automation most sellers implement is inventory sync between Amazon and Etsy. Even if you create MCF orders manually, keeping inventory accurate across both platforms prevents overselling. When Amazon ships an Etsy order from FBA inventory, that stock reduction needs to reflect on both your Amazon listings and your Etsy shop.
Handling returns
MCF orders that are returned come back to Amazon's warehouses. Amazon inspects them and either adds them back to your sellable inventory or marks them as unfulfillable. For Etsy returns, you'll process the refund through Etsy's system and coordinate with Amazon on the physical return. Some sellers include a return label with MCF orders; others handle returns on a case-by-case basis.
