Why offer a free plan at all?

It's a fair question. When something is free, you're usually either the product being sold, or there's a catch somewhere in the fine print. So let's address this directly before anything else.

Commerce Kitty offers a free plan for a straightforward reason: most multichannel sellers are small businesses. They're side hustlers turning a vintage sourcing hobby into a business. They're craft sellers who just opened a second channel. They're drop shippers who are still figuring out what platforms work for them. Charging $30-50/month before they've had a chance to see if the tool works for them is a bad deal for everyone.

The free plan lets you actually use the product. Connect your platforms. Watch inventory sync in real time after a sale. See your orders in one dashboard. If it works the way we say it does, you'll keep using it as you grow. If it doesn't, you haven't paid anything to find out.

The free plan is not a crippled demo. It's a real tier with real limits, designed for sellers who are earlier in their growth curve. It won't work for everyone permanently, and we'll be clear about when it stops being enough.

Exactly what the free plan includes

The core value, real-time inventory sync that prevents overselling, is fully available on the free plan. This isn't a trial with a countdown clock. You can use it indefinitely within those limits. If you're selling on Etsy and Shopify, or eBay and a Shopify store, the free plan handles keeping one inventory across multiple platforms without you lifting a finger after setup.

Where the limits are and when to upgrade

Here's where the free plan stops being enough, and when paying for a plan starts making financial sense.

The 50-order-per-month limit

This is the limit most sellers hit first. 50 orders across all connected platforms. If you have a good month and sell 60 things between Etsy and Depop, sync pauses for the remainder of that calendar month until the counter resets. You can continue selling, but you'll need to manually monitor inventory for that window.

50 orders per month works out to roughly 12 per week. For most sellers just adding a second channel, this is more than enough. If you're regularly doing more than 50 orders a month, you're at a point where the $29/month paid plan pays for itself quickly in time saved and oversells prevented.

The 2-channel limit

You can connect 2 platforms on the free plan. Etsy + Depop. Shopify + Etsy. Amazon + eBay. If you want to add a third, you'll need to upgrade. The incremental revenue from a third channel typically justifies the cost immediately.

The 1 fulfillment integration limit

If you use ShipStation, Shippo, Printful, Printify, or Gooten, you can connect one of them on the free plan. If you're using Printful for apparel and ShipStation for physical products you ship yourself, you need both connected, and that requires a paid plan.

What the free plan doesn't include at all

• Bulk listing creation or cross-platform listing push (paid feature)
• Advanced analytics and sales reporting
• Priority support
• API access for custom integrations

For inventory sync specifically, none of those missing features affect the core job. If you just want your stock counts to stay accurate across platforms, the free plan does that completely. The upgrade makes sense when you regularly exceed 50 orders per month, when you need a third sales channel, when you need multiple fulfillment integrations, or when you want consolidated revenue reporting across all channels. If none of those apply, the free plan is genuinely sufficient.

How the sync works technically

Understanding how the sync actually works helps you understand why it's reliable (and why it's worth trusting your inventory to it).

When you connect a platform like Etsy or Shopify, Commerce Kitty registers a webhook with that platform's API. A webhook is a real-time notification that fires the moment something changes. In this case, the moment a sale is recorded.

When Etsy sends a "sale completed" webhook, Commerce Kitty receives it, looks up every other platform that has the same product linked, and sends an inventory update to each of them. The whole process takes a few seconds. It's not polling on a schedule. It's event-driven, so there's no lag between a sale and the inventory update.

If a webhook delivery fails (a platform's API is temporarily slow), Commerce Kitty queues the retry automatically. You'll see an error notification in your dashboard and via email, so you know something needs attention. Failed syncs don't disappear silently.
